APA works in combination with the new electro-mechanical steering and radar sensors to detect a suitable parking space and then steer the vehicle in safely, while protecting your wheels from curb rash. The driver still controls the gas and brake, but the steering is 100% autonomous. Electromechanical steering utilizes a servo motor connected directly to the steering column as opposed to a conventional power steering pump. These systems also save weight, eliminate drag on the engine, and reduce future maintenance issues. Oh, and when you are ready to leave, the system safely guides you out.
